A questionable work history is a work history CV that has gaps or terminations in it. Gaps in Employment
A prospective employee may have many reasons for an employment gap. Prospective employers will look favourably on a person who has taken time from work to obtain a degree to better his or her knowledge and job skills. Family obligations are acceptable, as well. However, the prospective employee will not want to supply information that may indicate difficulty with childcare. Another acceptable reason for an employment gap is a medical reason. However, the prospective employee should clearly state that such a medical condition no longer exists.
Terminations are perhaps the most difficult questionable items to explain. While lying in a job interview is never a good practice, one can find a way to turn around a negative termination. For example, a person who was terminated for breaking a company policy could state that he or she was unaware of the policy. The person could go on to state that he or she learned a valuable lesson from the former employer and that the mistake will never again occur.
A prospective employee should never speak negatively about a former employer. The person may have quit for monetary issues, management disputes, or a hostile work environment. The best way to explain such resignations is by stating that business differences or creative differences existed. Alternatively, the person can state that he or she resigned because of a need for a new challenge. The key to answering questions about touchy subjects is to turn negative information into positive attributes.
